FROM THE SECRETARY’S PEN

IRDS is a non profitable, non political voluntary organization which is registered under West Bengal Societies Registration Act. .

It was established in the year 1994 , by a group of likeminded social workers who were working in the fields of basic health, education, environmental protection, rural development, women empowerment and human rights. Organization began with very limited resources & manpower. Main objectives of IRDS are to empower the economically weaker & socially marginalized section of the society through capacity building of the people.

IRDS works among rural women, children, handicapped people and poor villagers and urban deprived population. Major areas of interest of the organization are Women Empowerment, Primary & Non Formal Education, Basic Health, HIV/ AIDS Awareness, Environmental Protection, Self Help Groups (SHGs), Employment oriented vocational Training, Youth Development, promotion of sports, Arts and culture, reproductive child Health and Awareness on various Social, Health and Current issues.

The financial year 2007- 08 was full of ups & downs and learning’s. Organization has covered more than 50000 direct & indirect beneficiaries in the working areas, rather than rendering to the beneficiaries, IRDS works to enhance their capacities so that they can realize their potentialities and can bring a positive change in their levies. In other works it can be said that IRDS works not "For the people but With the people."

IRDS has been committed towards its objectives which are community Development, Handicap Welfare, Child welfare, Promotion of National integration, Communal Harmony, Brotherhood and Peace, involving the youth in the income generation activities, and providing them platforms to serve the community. The organization has been working honestly towards the achievement of the objectives since its establishment.

The moment we had decided to form a social welfare society, it was very critical for us to give a positive shape to it, sometimes when I think about the day when we envisioned the IRDS; it seems that it is an incident of just one day before. It is really quite unbelievable that we have entered in the 15 years of struggle & learning. It has always been an occasion to speak to my colleagues, members , well- wishers, supporters & people in general about our achievements & developments of the year . At the beginning we had very limited resources and very few volunteers. Some of us, who are likeminded, committed & concerned to the welfare of the deprived people surrounding us, had constituted the IRDS.

These 15 years were full of ups & downs and learning, today we have been covering more than 50,000 direct & indirect beneficiaries in our working areas. We have extended our activities.

We are particularly concerned about the Health, Education, and socio economical field and emphasize on women & children development work. Formation of women SHGs, Vocational Training and Capacity building is our one of thrust area. IRDS works to enhance capacities of the beneficiaries so that they can realizing their potentialities and can bring a positive change in their lives.

I like to express my thanks to all the individuals and agencies that have been very helpful & supportive towards all the endeavors of IRDS.

I believe that whatever has been done in the past is inadequate. We rededicate ourselves to carry forward the mission for the upliftment of the deprived & marginalized people in the society.

IRDS THRUST AREAS : HEALTH, EDUCATION AND SOCIO-ECONOMICAL

To provide opportunities for physical, moral, cultural and social education by organizing seminars, workshops, symposium, exhibitions, meeting , discussion and talk cultural and sports meet, adventure programme and other social gathering / program’s.
To promote Educational Institutions for the rural poor children & uneducated adults.
To promote the develop entrepreneurship among the unemployed of the area of operation through vocational training, professional education, financial and technical assistance.
To provide and arrange need based training to the rural folk, men and women to upgrade their knowledge and improve their skill to become socio economically self reliant.
To organize marketing system inside & outside of the Country for the ’Training Products.
To enable children to be children play think language an grow as children.
To look after the Slum, Destitute, Orphan, Handicapped & Street Children.
To fight against Child Labour.
To foster friendly relationship between rural and urban people and work for the weaker society.
To promote Health check up Centers & Hospitals for the poorer section of the Society.
To create socio economic cultural awareness among people.
To motivate people for judicious utilization of local resources.
To inculcate knowledge among the people to take action for restoration of ecological balance and eco harmony.
To take a action against environment pollution and harnessing the power of nature through proper utilization of the renewable energy.
To emphasis the need for education as the firs steps to fight against poverty.• To work for the sustainable development through people participatory process.
To look after the neglected & helpless aged people.
To promote inter state and international contacts exchange of thought and enlighten about the global humanitarian interest without disconnection of class, colour creed or religion by providing a meting round in the homely and healthy atmosphere.
To organize National Integration Camps in different part of India.
To promote the concept of Gender Justice and child welfare.
To organize educational tours including Mountaineering the trekking for youth groups.
To promote propagate and educated about the healthy life style.
To organize explore fund raising efforts / initiative for the fulfillment of the objectives of the organization by mobilization of financial assistance/ donations from Government, National.
To amalgamate any society , association, institutions, company or other body whether corporate or not, take over the properties, assets, liabilities, and engagements of any such body.
To affiliate or work in co- operation with institutions or societies whether National or International, which have similar objects aims and activities.
